To All: Over the next few weeks, I will be uploading my recent sessions that were completed at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. I was extremely fortunate to have access to the same piano that McCoy Tyner chose for the studio in the 1970s, when he was recording for Milestone. Modern, concert-grade instruments like this Yamaha C9 are conspicuously absent in many facilities here. I look forward to continued composition and performance in the New Year 2019, and extend my best wishes to you all, from the Bay Area. ~ James

Forty years after university, I continue to explore the intersection of improvisation and modern classical music, through the medium of concert grand piano. Purposely removed from electronic effects, this is a content-driven music centered on extended, real-time performance; an original practice that has moved beyond the political barriers that exist in the San Francisco Bay Area.
